PM Dahal calls for immediate steps to reduce climate change impact on mountain communities

KATHMANDU, May 22: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that immediate steps should be taken to reduce the impact of climate change on the mountain communities.

The PM made the remarks at an event titled ‘Mountains, Human and Climate Change: International Dialogue of Experts’ which he inaugurated in Kathmandu today by ceremoniously watering a plant. This dialogue aims to draw the international community’s attention to the impacts of climate change on mountainous regions and to bolster actions based on mountain ecosystems.

Prime Minister Dahal said that an integrated mountain voice should urgently address and resolve the growing concerns about the impact of climate change  on mountain communities and the ecological services they provide.

Representatives from 25 countries, including those from mountainous regions and small island nations, along with members of the international community, development partners, international NGOs, private sector, and civil society, are taking part in the dialogue.

The meeting is attended by notable figures such as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Bhutan’s Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Lyonpo Younten Phuntsho, Bangladesh’s Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Saber Hussain Chaudhary, President of the UN Assistant Agency for Scientific and Technical Advice on Climate Change (SABTA) Harry Bhireu, Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal, and various leaders and representatives from diplomatic missions and the Nepal government.
