‘Oh Maicha’ embodies Newari Culture

‘Oh Maicha’—a duet song between Brijesh Shrestha and Barsha Karmacharya is creating a buzz these days. The video stands in 4th place on YouTube trending video in Nepal.

So what made this song popular? Of course, it is the unique music and lyrics having a retro vibes. Beyond has penned and composed the song. And he also borrowed few lines from Newari language —‘Oh Maicha Changu Mikha Guli Bala (Yo Maicha your eyes are very beautiful), Oh Daicha Changu Khwaa Guli Bala’ (Yo Daicha your face is very beautiful).

Meanwhile, the music video lively embodies a Newari culture. Donning typical Newari attire, both Brijesh and Barsha look handsome and beautiful Daicha (boy) and Maicha (girl) respectively. Similarly, the video was shot in Newari community Thimi—depicts the alleys, temple and old house.

Posting on his official Facebook account, Brijesh wrote: “And finally here it is our new project from Ness Studio. This is our first try to do something different than we usually do and I want to thank you all the people who supported us in this project and the whole Ness team.”
