Nepal Telecom initiates transition from copper wire service to fiber technology

KATHMANDU, April 4: Nepal Telecom initiated the transition from traditional copper wire-based basic telephone (PSTA) service to Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology in all areas under the jurisdiction of the Telecommunication Office in Sundhara. Acting Managing Director Sangita Pahadi Aryal officially inaugurated the transition by shutting down the copper-based telephone service during an event held in Sundhara on Thursday.

All telephone and ADSL lines previously reliant on copper technology have now been fully migrated to a modern fiber technology network, with the copper network being decommissioned, as per Nepal Telecom's announcement.

Acting Managing Director Aryal expressed her satisfaction that the outdated copper technology has been replaced by modern fiber technology, aligning with the evolving demands of the telecom sector.

The state-owned company anticipates that this transition will greatly benefit customers, as they can now access high-speed internet, telephone, and television services through a single wire via the latest NT fiber technology.
