‘#MeToo movement’ needs to be discussed in Nepal: Dayahang Rai
The ‘#MeToo movement’ spread like wildfire across the globe after Hollywood actress Milano tweeted in 2017: “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet.”
Thousands of people replied on her tweet by sharing their personal sexual harassment stories including celebrities like—Lady Gaga, Viola Davis, Javier Muñoz and Evan Rachel Wood.
However, the ‘#MeToo movement’ barely affected the Nepali film fraternity. Amid such a situation, actor Dayahang Rai has stressed the necessity of discussion on the ‘#MeToo movement’ in Nepal.
“This (#MeToo movement) is a very sensitive subject so that the victims need to speak out,” he told My City.
Since Nepal has a diverse society; the flirting between men and women has its beauty, he opined. “In the Rai-Limbu community, there is a culture of flirting between Solta-Solti but has its limit.”
According to the actor Rai, “Men have been abusing women in recent times. Women shouldn’t constantly tolerate the abuse and violence; rather they should counterattack their abusers.”
