Male rhino found dead in CNP, 19 rhinos die in nine months

CHITWAN, April 4: A 32-year-old male rhinoceros has been found dead in the Chitwan National Park (CNP).

Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, information officer of the CNP, said that the dead body of the rhino was found near a road leading from Kasara to the Bagai sector of Madi, the core area of the CNP on March 16. However, the information was only received later.

Tiwari stated that the rhinoceros died of natural causes.

According to CNP data, 19 rhinos have been found dead in the current fiscal year so far. Among them, 15 died of natural causes (old age, tiger attacks, and disease), three due to poaching, and one rhino died due to unknown causes.

Additionally, in CNP, three tigers, five elephants, two crocodiles, and one gharial crocodile (also known as the fish-eating crocodile) have died as of April 3 of the current year.

This year, a total of 58 different wild animals have died, and 163 wild animals have been rescued, Tiwari added.
