With a belief, a girl can do anything; she is living her dream life. She is also willing to set an example to empower women. Sang Doma Sherpa is a 23-year-old social worker and drummer for Gorkhali Girl band. She wants to contribute for her nation through these fields. The band formed in 2012A.D. She was studying in grade nine when she laid her hands on drum. She said, “Drum is taken as men’s instrument that needs power. And there are not many female drummers in Nepal and this inspired me to play drums. When our band Gorkhali played for the first time, people didn’t take us well. But now the scenario has changed and we have been making music for seven years now.”

While being in girl band, she used to be a volunteer as well. She went to Gorkha as a volunteer to educate children. “I was amazed when young people from Taiwan came to Gorkha to contribute". I was interested as I was getting paid even as a volunteer but also had an interest in contributing for my nation. Since 2016, I got the opportunity to lead Call Over Ridges, from Nepal an International non-governmental organization working in children's education.”

At that time, she was studying in BA second year whenher life turned upside down. She lost her mother that broke her heart into pieces. She recalled, “My mother took care of three of us . She provided us with everything and made us capable. But when it was time to ripe the fruit from her children, she left us forever.”

She was very depressed then and used to spend most of her time roaming around Boudhanath Stupa because “I could not believe she was no more and when I was in home I missed her so much.” To get away from this situation, without thinking twice, she got her backpack and went straight to Gorkha. Sang added, “After reaching the village and interacting with them I found, my sufferings were nothing in comparison to the problems they were facing. And this helped me to heal.” It was in Gorkha; she became even more determined working for children’s education. Her mother’s memories helped her stick with drumming. She expressed, “Drumming connects me to my mom and I want to cherish my mom’s beautiful memories playing drum.” Her interest to drum and love to educate, gives inspiration to many where she added, “There is nothing such as choosing one thing in life to do when you can do a lot.”
