Life: A game of Adversities

Life: A game of Adversities

Life is a roller coaster ride. They say. The ride is full of ups and downs, darkness and light. Some days you have it. Sometimes you don’t. There are a number of sayings that define Life. Hundreds of pages could be filled if I went on and on.

My rollercoaster ride began some thirty-odd years ago. The inception was perfect. But as I grew older, I got to experience the different sides of this ride. As a school kid, who dropped two years pretending to follow his dreams to become an engineer. I still laugh at it. I was a weak mathematics pupil. Since I couldn’t get into the Physics group with a poor score in mathematics, I immediately swapped groups with the Biology students only to lose two years of my academics. See, how flexible I was. From a potential engineer to a possible doctor in no time. I later took up Management as my base. I managed to pass this time around.

Whoo!!! I wanted to build a career in media and communication. I ended up taking science in the first installment. The second installment followed with dropping out and thus taking up management. Through these four years as a higher secondary student, I lost my focus on pursuing a career in media studies. I now was adamant of going for BBA, succeeded by an MBA and a handsome job at a bank. The thought process so far was a major crisis.

The story continues. I undergraduated as a BBA student with a specialization in Marketing. The MBA contradicted the preceding course. It was a major in Finance. The crisis is still on. I tried doing different things. A job interview from a reputed bank in the Middle East was on. But they never turned up. As an MBA graduate, I pursued a career at a renowned Indian BPO (what we call as call centers). Funny!!! Isn’t it?

I did this only for my communication aspirations. I worked there for about a year and returned back home. Once again, the preferences changed. I went on to become a lecturer. This is a profile I have succeffully hung on to for the past six years. There is a catch here. Despite an MBA in finance, I currently specialize in communication studies. Every interview post my graduations, I have been asked this question. “Despite a degree in Finance, why have you opted teaching communications and other theory based subjects?” the answer is simple- “Because I love to.”  I don’t share a good reputation as a student of mathematics. Yet I took up finance. I cleared my MBA. Finance has maths in it. Don’t know how I managed. I may have opted an easy way out by going with irrelevant subjects like communications. But that’s what I love to do. I wanted to pursue a career where I could talk to people, advise them, and solve their queries.

I am not sure what’s there for the future. My only consideration is sticking to the present. After a series of odd and stupid decisions, I finally hold a profile I am happy with. On top of that, writing and making my readers go through the article gives me a strong feeling. The audiences go through my content, some agree, others disagree, and give feedbacks. All these make my content even stronger and more vivid. Today, I look back at the past. A growing kid excited with his career prospects only to have repeated an entire cycle of higher secondary education. Wasn’t much bothered about that. Changed disciplines and studied further. I arrived at the crossroads. It was time to choose a career. I was blank. I didn’t know what to do. My entire academics were mixed up, a cocktail of sorts. There I was, literally banged by the cocktail.

Life is how you take it. Be thoughtful, the life will pacify you. Be nervy, the life is your biggest nightmare. Stay cool; the life will keep moving and so will you. I made a choice. I don’t regret at all. It’s your turn. Make the right choice. Think about your prospects. Doesn’t matter, you may be a rebellious teenager fighting against the society’s norms, you may be an undergrad student enjoying your life to the fullest. Or you may be an employee, paving your way to corporate success. Some time in life, you will make a choice. Think!!!

Let the choice define your values. Let it define you.

Good  Luck!!!
