Lawmakers demand to bring constitution amendment proposals

KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Lawmakers, speaking in today's parliament meeting, have drawn the attention of the government to address the demands of Tarai centric parties even by amending the constitution.

They opined for bringing the constitution amendment proposal forging consensus among all parties. Nepali Congress lawmaker Farmullah Mansoor said that the Tarai issues should be addressed through an amendment to the constitution.

On the other hand, CPN-UML lawmaker Bharat Mohan Adhikari and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party lawmaker Prem Suwal urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to inform the parliament about his recent India visit in connection with participating in the BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit.

CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Haribol Gajurel also opined for consensus on constitution amendment.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Kunti Shahi said that the government was not serious for holding local bodies' election.

Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (Democratic) lawmaker Geeta Kshetri urged the government to pay attention on nature conservation as climate change was affecting the agro sector.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Radheshyam Adhikari said that the government should inform the House about the long leave of CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki.

UML lawmaker Rewati Raman Bhandari warned the government not to bring the constitution amendment proposal without consulting the opposition parties.

CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Shyam Kumar Shrestha drew government's attention to provide grants for the quake survivors in Ramechhap district as it was not found effective
