‘India Now and In Transition’, edited by Indian Journalist Atul K Thakur and published by Niyogi Books was officially launched at India International Center, New Delhi on Friday. According to the press statement released by Thakur, the book is compiled in the memory of Late BG Verghese, former editor – Indian Express and Hindustan Times.
The book has 37 essays, contributed by professionals such as Ramachandra Guha, Shashi Tharoor, Wajahat Habibullah, TSR Subramanian, Omair Ahmad, Dhruva Jaishankar, Atul K Thakur, Jayati Ghosh, Reetika Khera, Rajeev Bhattacharjee, Kajal Basu, Tabish Khair, Manu Bhagavan, Samir Saran, Vinod Rai and Robin Jaffery.
The statement added that this sequel, ‘India Now and in Transition’, is based on how India is being shaped through contemporary political events and other key determinants. Before this book Thakur had published ‘India Since 1947: Looking Back at a Modern Nation’. \
The press statement quoted Bimal Jalan, former governor of Reserve Bank of India, saying, “The book is an excellent collection of 37 essays covering politics, culture and governance, security, language, economics and foreign policy.
