Here's how to really take care of your makeup brushes

Here's how to really take care of your makeup brushes

We paint, contour, and highlight our faces with makeup brushes every day, but we can't always say the same thing about how frequently we're cleaning those brushes. Giving them a thorough washing every month or so is not enough.

Here's some tips to clean up your makeup brushes the right way:

Protect Your Brushes With a Fortress
Taking care of your bristles starts with making sure they are protected in storage. Keep your brushes protected from you makeup in a separate pouch for your bag. And at home, keep them covered to prevent dust from accumulating. Keeping them covered will also protect them from other air-borne pollutants that can cause bacteria.

Scrub a Dub Dub
Wash your personal brushes with shampoo once a week to keep them in top shape. This will especially help your makeup from looking muddy, since makeup tends to build up in the bristles.

Keep Your Makeup Brushes Cool
The number one thing to avoid when it comes to keeping your brushes healthy? Heat and humidity. To keep them away from the bathroom for storage as they tend to absorb moisture in a humid bathroom. Do not use a hot hairdryer.

Dust off after every use
Wipe your brushes or dust them after every use. This helps to remove the excess build up caused by makeup. It removes the makeup debris, if any on the brushes. Use cotton to gently dust off the makeup from the brush. This will keep all your makeup brushes clean.

Clean your brushes with oil free makeup remover
Every month, attempt to clean your makeup brushes with oil free makeup remover. Take some Luke warm water in a bowl and add some oil free makeup remover solution. Put all your brushes inside and let them soak for two to three minutes. Remove excess water from the brushes and let them dry on a paper towel. This helps to remove excess makeup and debris from the brushes to leave them clean and dry.
