Father, son into semis

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: Hira Bahadur Thapa and his son Amrit have advanced to the semifinals of the men's singles event in the ongoing Fourth Civil Bank Open Squash Tournament on Thursday. Hira overcame Sujan Jwarchan 5-11, 11-2, 11-4, 11-7 and Amrit edged past Kumar Pun 11-6, 11-9, 11-9.

Similarly, defending champion Arhant Keshar Singh and Prabin Birsingh Kansakar also progressed to the last four defeating Yam Rana and Amir Blon respectively. Arhant defeated Yam 11-3, 11-5 while Prabin beat Amir 11-4, 11-4, 11-8 and confirmed their places in the semifinals. 

In the veterans' 50 plus event, Yam Rana and Mahendra Maharjan advanced to the semifinals registering victories over Binod Dhwoj Khadka and Suman Tuladhar. Yam overcame Binod 11-3, 11-8, 11-7 while Mahendra defeated Suman 11-3, 11-2, 11-6. Now in the last four, Yam will face Lal Bahadur Gurung while Mahendra will vie against defending champion Sudip Bahadur Singh.
