Dr Sudha Sharma’s memoir ‘Singha Durbarko Ghumne Mech’ has been released. Dr Sharma, who is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist by qualification, served as Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) from October 2008 to December 2011.

Extending his felicitations for the book via video, former President Ram Baran Yadav said, “Dr Sudha has complied her story as a doctor and an administrator in such a way that many youth may benefit from it in the days to come.”

 According to a press statement released by Nepalaya,the book chronices Dr Sharma’s adventure and challenges as one of the few women secretaries in the government formed post 2006 uprising. 

It added, for a government that prioritized proportional representation of women as its top agenda, it was unreasonably ill prepared to accept the leadership of a strong woman. Written with wit, satire and astuteness, the book is an interesting documentation of the events that led to the People’s uprising of 2006 and the inside stories of Bureaucracy’s bumpy road to readjustment to ‘New Nepal’.

The book is the third and final in the series of Nepalaya Women Series 2020, after Durga Karki’s ‘Kumari Prashnaharu’ and Bhuwan Dhungana’s ‘Parityakta’.

“Dr Sharma’s book is a story of a woman, who navigates through the disabling structure of patriarchy to become one of the few who manage to hit the glass ceiling,” said Bhushita Vasistha, the publishing editor. “This book will add a meaningful dimension to the discourse of identity and gender in Nepal”
