Dikpal Thapa’s photo shortlisted for Sony World Photography Awards 2019

Nepali photographer Dikpal Thapa’s photo has been shortlisted for Sony World Photography Awards 2019 in an open category. World Photography Organization unveiled the shortlisted photos on February 5.

Speaking about his photo being shortlisted in Sony World Photography Awards, Thapa told My City that he is pleased to represent the culture of Nepal in the global platform. “This is the biggest platform for me. I don’t know I will grab an award or not. But I already reflect our culture to the world which is more than winning the award,” he expressed.

According to Thapa, the shortlisted photo was shot in Bhujung village of Lamjung district back in April 2018. During capturing the picture of honey hunting, he was stung by a swarm of bees on his eyes. However, he managed to click the photos of honey hunting.

Thapa is currently pursuing a master degree in Business Management at NCC College. He has been informally been in photography realm for the past four years now.

This year the competition received the highest number of photos—over 326,000 from across the globe. The winner of the shortlisted photos will get announced on April 17, 2019. The winners in different category will receive a hand cash of $5,000. Moreover, all shortlisted and winning photos will be showcased at Somerset House, London—beginning from 18 April to 6 May.
