“Tattoo is a beautiful art, made out of pain,” said Eros Maharjan. Eros, 30-year-old, tattoo artist is best known for his black and grey tattoos using realism who used to be a rhythm guitarist for the band Arachinds.

He never thought of being a professional tattoo artist but he was into art during his childhood days. He reminisces, “When I was in school, I would be selected for any painting competition. I was good at art. During my teenage years I used to play guitar for the band. And for my higher education I chose IT.”

He did not know then, that he would be a tattoo artist one day who now owns Eros Ink at Thamel. He was passionate about music and was an IT student. He went to London for his higher studies. He was also willing to learn music there, but he could not afford it. He joined a band too but it did not turn out well. While living in London, he did various jobs including waiter, dishwasher, cleaner and bartending. And all these works did not satisfy him but creating tattoo did. About his inspiration to be a tattoo artist, he shares, “It happened one day that my manager at the restaurant told me to try making tattoos as I was good at sketching. I started to look about tattoo along with the process of creating it in internet. That’s how I began.”

It was the year 2010, when he did a tattoo for the first time. “My wife Sushmita helped me a lot and she is the first person to get a tattoo from me. I made a star.” During the initial days, he practiced tattooing on his own body, then on his friends’ bodies where “I fell in love with creating tattoo. And I left the restaurant and college, with a dream to establish my own tattoo studio in Nepal and founded Eros Ink in 2014.”

He adds, “My parents are supportive with what I do. From where I am today it could not have been possible without support from my wife, my whole family and friends. I did different kinds of work but I choose tattooing and I am dedicated to this because tattoo is a form of living art and I become friends with those who get tattoo from me. And I aspire to travel the world showcasing my art,”
