A one-day national consultation, “Roles and Responsibilities of Private Sector in Public Services for Achieving SDGs in Nepal” was held in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The program, which was jointly organized by Resource Center for Primary Health Care (RECPHEC), LDC Watch and South Asia Alliance for Poverty Alliance (SAAPE) had the speakers discussing on potential areas for Nepali private business fraternity to contribute in achieving the national SDGs 2030 goal.
Speaking on the occasion, Pushpa Kandel, vice-chairman of National Planning Commission said achieving the SDGs in 2030 would mark a milestone in development for Nepal. He added, “Achieving SDG 2030 will get us to realize the goals and objectives set forth by the constitution.”
The consultation concluded with the declaration that “without constant support and contribution of CSOs and private sectors, the achievement of targeted goals may not be materialized.” The declaration has also called for “all business companies and private sector to voluntarily align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted sustainability principles on human rights, labor, management and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of SDGs.”
