Chiba Bhanjyang: A traveler’s paradise

Chiba Bhanjyang: A traveler’s paradise

Imagine a gush of wind brushing your hair before passing through the sturdy trees studded with the season’s blossoms. The distant view is that of the majestic hills providing a backdrop to the vast meadows scattered with cattle munching on the lush vegetation. Such features have attracted a huge influx of people to Chiba Bhanjyang, in the Indo-Nepal border. Easily connected with roads, the locality is popular among travelers en route to Chuangthapu.

Chiba Bhanjyang’s border connection with Sikkim has brought travelers from both India and Nepal. Also, the shared border between Nepal and India has also established Chiba Bhyanjang into a business hub. More often than not, it also sees bureaucrat from both sides carrying out official duties.

The high altitude location and sparse population of the area leave travelers with fewer reasons to visit Chiba Bhanjyang. “After the construction of roads in the area, the arrivals of visitors have increased. Despite the increase in visitors, the area so far has no food and lodging facility for the visitors,” says Teju Rai, a Chiba Bhyanjyang local.

The geographical terrains, clear blue sky, rhododendron, views of yak grazing are captivating scenes of Chiba Bhanjyang. The administrative officer of Yangbarak rural municipality, Dambar Angdembey believes that the area could gain popularity if roads were constructed to connect with some parts of India.

The tiny hills, the attractive symmetry of houses, red pandas in the nearby forest areas, the fair taking place at every Nepali New Year at Sukedaap and the authentic food are the major attractions here. Sharad Adhikari, a Chyangthapu resident currently living in Kathmandu states that he manages to spend quality time at Chiba Bhanjyang every time he visits the place. “The organic food like yak meat and other animals are delicious. Also, the tradition of welcoming guests with a cup of hot tea is mesmerizing,” added Adhikari.

Visitors can have a great time strolling around the area packed with rich biodiversity. The facility of homestays and the warm hospitality of the locals add another reason to visit Chiba Bhanjyang. The journey from Phidim to Chyangthapu takes four hours to complete. Nonetheless, the construction of roads has lately made the ride more convenient.
