Ajay Devgn to kick off Syed Abdul Rahim's biopic in July
Ajay Devgn is all set to step into the sports shoes of Syed Abdul Rahim. The biopic on the former coach of the Indian football team is going on the floors in July with a four month start-to-finish schedule. According to a source from the film’s team, Ajay’s co-stars are a mix of real players and lookalikes of popular names like Chuni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Jarnail Singh among others.
“They have been training at a Santacruz ground for two hours every morning since March-end with PV Vinoy, former striker and chief coach of Western Railways. Ajay who has been supervising the prep in-between other shoots, will soon begin his own training,” the source informed, adding that the team will move to another city for his prep to avoid leaks pertaining to the details. Look tests have been on for the past few days.
The shoot starts with a week-long schedule in Mumbai after which it will move to Lucknow for 40 days. “After a break, they will return to the city for another 15 days of work before heading to Kolkata. Amit (Sharma, director) is finalising the international locations. Jakarta, Rome and Melbourne are in contention,” the source added.
The Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta production spans 15 years and will capture the journey of the Indian football team at their finest, including when they reached the semifinals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and won a Gold at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta when Syed was the coach. Nine months later, on June 11 1963, Rahim who was suffering from lung cancer, breathed his last in Hyderabad. South actress Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the film.
