5 things about Rajan Mukarung

A poet, novelist and teacher, Rajan Mukarung is an eloquent intellectual. Originally from the hilly district of Bhojpur, his early success in writing won him numerous accolades. Awarded with Kirat Puraskar Samman for novel ‘Hechhakupa’, Pahichan Puraskar for ‘Ferido Saundarya’ and Madan Puraskar for ‘Damini Bhir’ in 2012, he is currently dedicated to the publishing his next volume, ‘Ayogya’  soon this year. More to it, he is also exploring many domains of arts in order to add a value to the growing music and film industry.

In a conversation with My City’s Sonam Lama, Mukarung reveals the five fascinating facts about him.

Experimental Cook
Because cooking was more of a responsibility at home, he started working in the kitchen at a young age. Now that he has been into cooking for quite some time, he finds himself heavily fond of preparing non-vegetarian delicacies. “Be it during occasions or for friends and family members, I love exploring in the kitchen with my experimental recipes and flavors,” laughs Mukarung.

Online game lover
Besides being entertained by reading and writing, he is keen on playing sports online. Although it has been ages since he physically engaged himself in any sport, he usually plays football and chess games online. “Many of my precious engagements with friends in football and volleyball games have landed me in injuries so I have lately been playing the games online,” he adds.

Into action movies
His fondness for action movies, especially showcasing martial arts has never faded since he first ever started watching movies. He mostly seeks for a realistic picture of society in the films he watches. “Films have also been my subject of fascination. I am excited to play one of the characters in the upcoming movie, ‘Gau jana lageko baato’ directed by  Nabin Subba,” he revealed.

Fond of Nepali Classical music
He especially admires the classical music of 1990’s. It is through the lyrics that he finds himself connected to any musical piece. “The evergreen songs of Aruna Lama and Phatteman are some of my favorites. With the inspiration drawn from them, I look forward to recording the songs that I have penned in few months,” expresses Mukarung.

A social activist
His affiliations with and concerns for social issues have highlighted his efforts. From cultural concerns to societal and national affairs, he believes to put forward his views and opinion at a level to bring about changes and positive impacts in the matters of public interest.
