14th Handicraft Trade Fair from Friday

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN) is organizing the 14th Handicraft Trade Fair and 12th Handicraft Competition in Kathmandu from Nov 25 to 29. 

The five-day event is being organized with the support of the Ministry of Commerce and the Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC). 

The trade fair aims to promote handicraft products in both the domestic and the international market, and foster relationship craft producers and importer, the organizers said in a press meet on Sunday. 

The trade fair being organized at the Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall will showcase woodcraft, metal craft, gold and silver ornaments, cotton products, leather items and orthodox tea among others. The exhibition will have 176 stalls and seven pavilions.

According to FHAN, Nepal exports 50 types of handicraft products worth Rs 10 billion to more than 80 countries annually. 

Handicraft traders from 20 countries, including China, Iran, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bhutan and Sri Lanka, are expected to participate in the trade fair, according to FHAN. Similarly, the trade fair is expected to draw around 200,000 visitors and record transactions worth around Rs 100 million during the five-day event.
Besides trade fair, FHAN is also organizing competition of both modern and traditional handicraft products. Winner, first runner-up, second runner-up can win cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively. 
Entry fee for the event is Rs 50. Students, however, get 50 percent discount on entry fee.
