Young doctors treat earthquake victims

KATHMANDU, May 30: A team of four young Nepali doctors pursuing residency training in Jose R Reyes Memorial Medical Center in the Philippines conducted a medical camp and relief distribution program in Phuyalthok last Wednesday. The village was severely hit by the earthquake and multiple aftershocks.

A total of 183 people with injuries sustained during the earthquake and those with post-traumatic stress got medical attention in the camp. The same team distributed 30 bundles of corrugated zinc sheets to the villagers to build a community building.

The program was sponsored by Rotary district, NRN-Philippines and Typhoon Haiyan Survivors in the Philippines. The typhoon survivors had collected one peso each from the surviving fishermen family for earthquake survivors in Nepal.The medical team comprised of Dr Kushan Thapa, Dr Madhu Neupane, Dr Darshan Kumar Gurung and Dr Pradez Sapkota. The team had conducted similar camp earlier in Sano Sirubari in Sindhupalchowk District where they distributed edible items and tents to 250 affected families.
