Speaking at a press conference organized by the ministry on Sunday, DPM Thapa said the government is organizing the month-long awareness campaign across the country to disseminate information about the new constitution and clear up any misconceptions about it among the general public.
“So, I, on the behalf of the government, urge all political parties, civil society members, intellectuals and the general public to be instrumental in making the campaign successful,” he urged.
With people across the country divided for and against various key provisions of the constitution, the government had decided to launch the awareness campaign, billed as "Janata ko Sambidhan, Janatakai Maaj", and roughly translated as "People's constitution, Amidst the People" from December 7 to January 5 across the country. The campaign aims to familiarize the public with the new constitution.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to formally flag off the campaign amid a special ceremony scheduled to be held at Rastriya Sabha Griha in the capital on December 7. Leaders of major political parties and representatives of civil society are also attending the program.
Thapa said that leaders of political parties, former ministers, lawmakers, and civil society members will participate in the interaction program that will be organized as part of the campaign in all the 75 districts headquarters.
Likewise, municipalities and village development committee offices will also hold interaction programs with locals, political leaders and other stakeholders on major provisions of the new constitution as part of this special campaign.
Though Government authorities have expressed concerns to launch the campaign in eight districts of Tarai region that have turned into a hotbed of unrest and protests for the past three months, DPM Thapa said that the government will launch the campaign in those districts as well. “The government is holding talks with the agitating parties. We hope the crisis will end and the government will be able to able to organize the campaign successfully in the protest-hit Tarai districts as well.”
