“We were able to understand the differences among one another on the remaining issues in constitution-drafting. We agreed to discuss these issues among top leaders of the major political parties,” Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also coordinator of the sub-committee, told journalists after the meeting at Dhulikhel Resort.
The members of the sub-committee had reached Dhulikhel for an informal meeting and “serious” discussions on contentious issues related to constitution-drafting, in view of the fast approaching deadline for finishing work on the constitution.
Dahal said that the meeting of the Constitutional Committee slated for Friday will start discussions on the report on state restructuring.
“All the parties shared their doubts and reservations,” said Nilamabar Acharya, chairman of the Constitutional Committee.
Emerging from the meeting, Ram Chandra Paudel, the main opposition leader, stressed the need for a state restructuring commission and said, “State restructuring done without first forming such a commission will bring problems. So the state should be restructured on the basis of a commission comprising experts.”
Former prime minister and senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the discussions helped to bridge the gap in understanding among political parties.
