Likewise, Parsa finished third with three gold and a bronze and MMAC had to remain satisfied in the third spot with two gold and bronze. Similarly, Kathmandu took two gold while Nuwakot and Kavre won one gold each in the tournament with a total of 12 gold medals.
In men´s 73 kg, Raj Bahadur Chand of NPC won gold defeating Anil Patel of Banke. Nawanit Jha and Rabin Shrestha took bronze.
In 60 kg final, Saroj Maharjan of Kathmandu defeated Sunil Nagarkoti of Rasuwa to bag gold. Prem Tamang of NPC and Jeevan Ranabhat of Nepal Army Club (NAC) finished third.
In 50 kg, Rahin Thapa Magar of Nuwakot beat Diwakar Basnet of Lalitpur to secure first position. Ram Lama of MMAC and Chandra Limbu of Ilam took away a bronze each.
In women´s 57 kg, Ranju Rai of Parsa bagged gold. She defeated Fumu Lama Khatri of MMAC while Pramila Khadka of NPC and Srijana Napit of Kathmandu jointly came in the third spot.
In 48 kg, Susila Adhikari of NPC beat Sonu Khadka of Kailali. Aruna Thapa Magar of Nuwakot and Roshni Rai of Ilam satisfied with bronze.
Sunil Nagarkoti of Rasuwa and Phumu Lama Khatri of MMAC won the best man and woman players´ title respectively.
Altogether, 105 players from 22 different districts across the country including 28 women players participated in the tournament. The winners were awarded by Minister for Agriculture and Cooperative Mrigendra Singh Yadav, Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya among others.
The championship was organized by Saptari District Judo Association under sponsorship of Gorkha Brewery Limited.
Shankar Dev hammer Edmark
Riding on four goals of Rabindra Chand Shankar Dev College hammered Edmark Academy 11-0 on Friday in the ongoing Akhil Cup Football Tournament being held in Chysal ground.
Chand scored in the 7th, 54th, 57th and 67th minute while Ishwor Kadariya netted a hat trick. He netted in the 13th, 14th and 24th minutes respectively. Likewise, Bikash Sapkota scored a brace while Saugat Lama and Sandip Rai added one each to give the team a landslide victory.
In another match of the day, Trinity Int´l College edged past Crimson College 3-2. Deepak Gurung, Bivek Ale and Makar Gurung scored one each for the triumphant side in the 11th, 31st and 60th minute respectively. With an attempt to bounce back in the match Nawaraj Tamang and Jwala Gurung scored one each for Crimson in 33rd and 40th minute but could not succeed in their attempt.
Likewise, Tri Chandra College defeated Nepal Engeenering College 2-0. Sinang Limbu scored both goals for the winning side in the 12th and 30th minutes respectively.
The tournament organized by the All Nepal Free Student Union is being contested by 73 colleges of the Valley.
Chess team off to Kolkata
A 14-member chess team left for Kolkota on Friday to participate in the Asian Team Chess Tournament that will be held from December 20 to 29.
The participants in men´s category are Arun Baidhya (captain), Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Punya Man Karmacharya, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha and Sajan Pandey. In the women´s section, Monalisa Khumbu, Ashmita Adhikari, Tara Ghale and Bishakha Jaiswal are representing Nepal. Namrata Chudal and Rajkumar Mahato are the substitute players in the team.
The other members of the team are National Sports Council (NSC)´s official Rajesh Bahadur Shrestha, FIDE Arbiter Gyanendra Khaiju and Photojournalist Rajendra Chitrakar.
Youth and Sports Minister Gopal Tiwari Nepali bade farewell to the team amidst a function.
Defending champion Gyanu Baba wins
Defending champion Gyanu Baba sealed double victory during the Fourth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament on Friday.
Gyan Baba defeated Angel Heart 25-11, 25-22, 25-12 on the second day of the tournament held at the Bishal Training Covered Hall, Pokhara.
In another match Gyan Baba edged PLA out 25-11, 25-10, 25-15 in straight sets. Likewise, PLA beat Deep Jyoti 17-25, 25-10, 25-11, 25-19 and Fishtail overcame Deep Jyoti 25-8, 25-20, 25-8.
Five matches will be held on Saturday during which Gyam Baba will face Deep Jyoti and New Diamond while Nepal Police will compete with New Diamond and Fishtail.
In another match, PLA will take on Angel Heart.
