SPORTS BRIEFS: Morgan, Trinity lift basketball titles

KATHMANDU, July 2: Morgan International and Trinity ´C´ clinched the titles of the First Nobel Cup U-19 National 3-on-3 Basketball Championships on Friday in the girls´ and boys´ category respectively.



Morgan thrashed Whitehouse ´A´ 33-2 in the girls´ final held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. The team that scores 33 points wins the match in the tournament. [break]



Morgan took a 6-2 lead in the first set and scored 16-0 and 11-0 in the next two sets. Nora Gurung contributed 17 points in Morgan´s easy win while Sajani Tamang scored two points for Whitehouse. Morgan´s Samichhan Bista was adjudged the most-valuable-player (MVP).



In the boys´ final, Trinity ´C´ struggled past Morgan to lift the title. Both the teams were locked in a 31-31 tie minutes before Bishal Tamang of Trinity scored a three-pointer to win the match. Tamang was also the highest scorer of the match with 17 points and was later adjudged the MVP.





Newton, Deepjyoti in final



KATHMANDU, July 2: Newton and Deepjyoti School entered the final of boys´ volleyball in the Second President´s Cup Running Shield organized by Kathmandu District Sports Development Committee.



Newton defeated Kamana 25-23, 25-18, 25-16 in the semifinal match played at the National Sports Council Covered Hall on Friday. In another semifinal Tilingtar gave a walkover to Deepjyoti.



Likewise, Samakhushi English Boarding School (SEB) and Kamana entered the final of girls´ category. SEB thrashed Deepjyoti 25-8, 25-18, 25-21 while Kamana struggled past Tilingtar 16-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-17.



Both the final matches will be played on Saturday.





North East win



KATHMANDU, July 2: North East English School defeated HIMS 3-2 in tiebreaker on Friday during the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Boys´ National Football Tournament at Sano Gaucharan Ground, Kathmandu.



Shahid Shukra Secondary School beat Sahayogi Secondary School in tiebreaker while Adarsha School thrashed Gyanodaya Secondary School 4-0.



Meanwhile, Cosmic School, Mangaldeep and Bijeshwari Secondary School won their respective matches at the ANFA Technical Center, Chyasal.
