Sports briefs: Inter-college football from June 24

KATHMANDU: The last two group stage matches of the ongoing Gurkha Cup football tournament scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed for Thursday because of heavy downpour. NIBL Friends Club was scheduled to play against Boys Union Club and Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club was scheduled to meet Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club on Wednesday. According to a press statement issued by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the matches will be played on Thursday, the day fixed as rest day earlier. All four teams of Group D have three points each and the winners of Thursday´s matches will qualify for the quarterfinals. The group winner will meet McDowell´s Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) while the runner-up will meet Laxmi Bank Three Star Club in the last eight. Three Star and RCT are the winner and runner-up of Group B respectively.



Inter-college football from June 24


KATHMANDU: The British College Cup Inter-college Football Tournament 2013 will be held in the capital from June 24 to July 5, the event manager Laxmi Bank Three Star Club said in a press statement on Wednesday. The tournament will feature a total of eight teams and will be held in league-cum-knockout format. The first eight teams to register for the tournament will get to participate in the event. The British College is organizing the tournament to give platform to talented football players of colleges across Kathmandu. Meanwhile, A division outfit Three Star has already signed a deal to look after the management of the tournament.
