BAGLUNG, Sept 21: A specialized medical team has been sent to tackle and investigate the dengue outbreak in Baglung. This medical team, made up of members from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division and the Regional Disease Control Division, is busy collecting samples and conducting research in Baglung Bazaar after last year's alarming figure of 1,403 dengue cases in the district.
Pravin Sharma, Province Public Health Office chief, shared that a four-member expert team has arrived in Baglung with the goal of assessing the situation and finding a long-term solution to the dengue problem.
Baglung sees surge in dengue cases
Dr Gokarna Dahal, the head of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, is leading this expert group, which has been in the area for the past three days to get a better understanding of the patients' conditions.
Meanwhile, Dhawalagiri Hospital is actively involved in monitoring, testing for pests, and collecting samples. Alongside Dahal, the team includes Entomologist Sishir Pant from the World Health Organization and Kaushal Subedi from the Department of Health Services.
"We're investigating which of the four dengue species is currently more widespread. Health workers are being sent to homes to gather samples from suspected patients who come to the hospital, and we're also testing the insect population to help control dengue," Sharma said.
To prevent the dengue situation from spiraling out of control, the department has ramped up surveillance and research efforts, focusing on Baglung as a central point.
