KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harka Raj Rai, widely known as Harka Sampang, has secured formal recognition for his new political venture, the Shram Sanskriti Party.
The Election Commission (EC) granted official status to Sampang’s party on Sunday, marking a significant step for the mayor-turned-politician in expanding his political influence beyond local governance. Sampang personally visited the EC to receive the party’s formal approval.

The party, which submitted its registration application on September 28, has chosen soil as its election symbol. The move comes in the wake of the September 8–9 Gen Z protests that toppled the previous government and highlighted widespread public dissatisfaction with traditional political parties.
Sampang’s entry into national-level politics through the Shram Sanskriti Party signals his intent to channel the momentum of the youth-led movement into an organized political platform.
“This recognition is not just for us; it reflects the voice of citizens seeking change and accountability,” Sampang said after receiving the official nod.
