KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Nepali rupee gained 86 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, came down by Rs 1,285 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 106.16.
Though rupee's value remained the same on Monday, the local currency gained 10 paisa against on Tuesday to close at 106.06 against the dollar. Rupee gained another 20 paisa on Thursday to 105.86 against the greenback. Rupee continued its gaining run, as it appreciated by 40 paisa on Thursday to settle at 105.46 against US dollar. The local currency logged gain of 16 paisa on Friday - the last trading day of the week -- to close at 105.30 against dollar.
Likewise, rupee gained 87 paisa against euro and Rs 2.11 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 117.49 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 159.50.
BULLION
Gold price came down by Rs 1,285 per 10 grams over the week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 43,725 per 10 grams.
Though gold price remained unchanged on Monday, it came down by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Tuesday to Rs 43,470. On Wednesday, gold priced went down by another Rs 600 per 10 grams to settle at Rs 42,870. Gold lost its shine on Thursday as well, as its price fell by Rs 430 per 10 grams to settle at Rs 42,440. Price of gold remained unchanged on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 42,440.
Similarly, price of silver went down by Rs 17 per 10 grams over the week. Silver was traded at Rs 583 per 10 grams on Friday.
