PM Oli returning home from China visit

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is returning home today after completing a four-day official visit to China.


He had flown to China on December 2, leading a Nepali delegation at the friendly invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu this afternoon.


During his stay in Beijing, Prime Minister Oli held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. They discussed Nepal-China relations as well as various matters of bilateral interest and concern. Several agreements were signed between Nepal and China in the presence of Prime Minister Oli and his Chinese counterpart. 


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a mutual cooperation agreement was signed after bilateral talks between the leaders of both countries.

Officials from both nations signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the construction of the Tokha–Chahre Tunnel. Similarly, an MoU aimed at enhancing Nepal-China trade was also signed. Additionally, a certificate was exchanged confirming the completion of the reconstruction of the nine-story palace at Basantapur in Kathmandu by China. Furthermore, an understanding was established on a protocol for the export of buffalo meat to China.


Similarly, agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed regarding development projects, economic and technical cooperation, and financial assistance. During the visit, an MoU was signed concerning voluntary Chinese language teachers, as well as a memorandum of understanding between Nepal Television and China Media Group on communication technology.


On this occasion, several important agreements, including those under the BRI framework, were signed between Nepal and China. It has also been reported that discussions were held about bringing a large number of tourists from China to Nepal by 2025.


Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli extended an invitation to the Chinese Premier to visit Nepal. According to a report, the Chinese Premier responded positively to the invitation.


Prime Minister Oli, addressing the ‘Nepal–China Business Summit’ held in Beijing on Wednesday, stated that Nepal is creating a favorable investment environment and urged investors to invest with confidence. The summit was jointly organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Nepali Embassy in China. He highlighted that continuous efforts are being made to attract foreign investment in Nepal. 


On the same day, Prime Minister Oli also visited the Museum of the Communist Party of China in Beijing.


The Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister Oli includes his spouse Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, the Prime Minister's Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic and Development Advisor Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada, lawmakers, senior government officials, representatives from the private sector, and journalists, among others.
