So far, the NOC has learned of the deaths of two sportsperson and a sports journalist Suman Bomjan. NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan handed over the money to the relatives of the three deceased.
Besides Bomjan, para athlete Jeet Bahadur Khadka and chief coach of volleyball Keshav Lal Shrestha have been identified as deceased sportspersons by NOC. Nepal Paralympic Committee President Surendra Bahadur Basnyat received the amount on of behalf of Khadka while representatives from Nepal Sports Journalist Forum received the amount on behalf of Bomjan.
The NOC said that it would hand over the relief fund of coach Shrestha to Nepal Volleyball Association since no one came forward from the association or his family to receive the money.
NOC President Pradhan also informed that they were in the process of collecting information on sportsperson affected by the devastating earthquake. "We shall come up with further relief after we collect the overall information on players," Pradhan said.
He also said that NOC had requested for support from National Olympic Committees of various countries, International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia and they have responded positively.
"Firstly, we are trying to identify what we need. We will coordinate with the Home Ministry for the purpose and once it is finalized, we will request the international bodies accordingly," Pradhan said.
According to NOC General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha, the NOC was trying to reach out to people other than sportsperson as well, but that their primary focus would be those related to sports.
Besides relief to the sportsperson, the NOC has also been planning to build a monument in the memory those who died in the earthquake. "We will build a covered hall or something else and to memorialize the deceased sportsperson," Pradhan shared.
