The irate locals, who claimed to have informed both the NEA office, Tansen and the field staff, are now demanding compensation from NEA and are planning to protest against the negligence.[break]
Saru´s body was charred due to the high voltage current. “The herders taking their goats to graze saw smoke coming out of his body and informed the locals about the incident,” assistant health worker at the Rupse Health Post Yam Bahadur Chidi said. “We removed his body from the wire with the help of dry bamboo sticks. His body was charred from waist down and even his hair was burnt,” Chidi added.
Former chairman of Rupse Village Development Committee (VDC) Bal Bahadur Thapa said the NEA was informed immediately after the wire snapped Friday evening. “But they did not pay any attention,” Thapa complained.
But acting chief of NEA, Palpa Bharat Mani Nepal claimed the office was not informed about the snapping of wire. “We would have left whatever work we had and got together for repair had we known about the snapping of high tension wire,” Nepal argued. Nepal assured he would seek clarification from the field staffer and take action if against him if found guilty.
Chidi said around 50 students had used the way to go to school in the morning due to load-shedding but had to use another way to return when the power supply was back. He said many frogs, snakes and grasshoppers have been electrocuted in the area where the wire has touched ground and even grasses have been burnt.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Palpa Janak Raj Regmi said he has sought clarification from NEA. “I was surprised to hear that a stray high tension wire was lying on the ground for three days. We will initiate necessary action against this act of negligence,” CDO Regmi assured. The victim´s body has been brought to Tansen for postmortem.
