A meeting of the office bearers of MPRF-R on Wednesday morning at its central office in Shankhamul, Kathmandu decided to call a meeting of the party that has been left without a chieftain following Gupta´s imprisonment. [break]
“The meeting will discuss various issues, including the role of MPRF-R in the government and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF),” said MPRF-R Vice-chairman Rajkishor Yadav, who is likely to be the acting chairman of the party.
Asked whether the central committee meeting would suspend Gupta from the post of party chairman, Yadav said, “We will consult with the chairman before taking such a decision,” adding, “We do not need to suspend him, if he resigns voluntarily.”
Asked whom the party would send in the cabinet to replace Gupta, who was the minister for information and communications, Yadav said the central committee would finalize the name. He, however, said that finding a replacement for Gupta is not a big deal.
But finding Gupta´s replacement is easier said than done as Rajlal Yadav, who is a minister without portfolio from the party, has already staked claim to the post.
“The party should either give me the ministry or recall me from the cabinet,” Yadav told Republica, adding, "I will raise this issue at tomorrow´s (Thursday) meeting."
Earlier, Yadav had tendered his resignation to Gupta last month, saying he did not want to continue as a minister without portfolio.
