The anti-graft body decided to keep close watch on the activities at TIA for a month in order to stop anamolies in service delivery and curb irregularities by officials at the TIA. On Wednesday, the CIAA fanned out 18 inspectors in two shifts at TIA to monitor each and every activities carried out government bodies and officials at the TIA.
The CIAA states that irregularities by TIA officials have continued despite its repeated warnings.
“We have deployed eight inspectors in two shifts -- first shift starts from 9 am to 5 am, and second shift begins from 5 pm till midnight,” said SSP Gyan Bikram Shah, chief of the monitoring unit deployed by the CIAA.
He said that the monitoring unit met with senior officials of the TIA, Department of Immigration, customs office and other bodies working at TIA, informed them about the month-long inspection plan and sought their cooperation.
“From Thursday, we will start full-fledged monitoring. We will inspect if officials are working responsibly or not and whether resources of the TIA are being utilized properly,” added Shah.
CIAA spokesman Krishna Hari Puskar said, “If any official is found involved in irregularities or not carrying out their responsibilities properly during monitoring, they will face action.”
A press statement issued by the CIAA on Tuesday stated that it has decided to keep TIA under its surveillance for a month after it received complaints in large numbers about security lapses, poor coordination among concerned authorities, lack of proper utilization of physical infrastructure at TIA, lapses in customs and immigration services, poor maintenance of toilets and other facilities, and smuggling from the airport, among other things.
