Bala Nanda Sharma, convener of the secretariat, told Republica that the Maoist members in the secretariat have not attended meetings on one or the other pretext. [break]
“I had called the meeting for Thursday but they did not show up though they were in Kathmandu. I was told they are busy holding meetings with their party´s senior leaders,” said Sharma.
With the secretariat failing to meet on Thursday, the secretariat´s plan to begin the process of recruiting human resources and set up a situation centre by the end of this week has fallen in limbo.
“Unless they attend the secretariat meeting and endorse the plan, the secretariat cannot move ahead,” said another member of the secretariat, seeking anonymity.
Maoist member in the secretariat Chandra Prakash Khanal, however, said that they would attend the meeting when there is issue for discussion.
He said, “There is no need of a situation center. Similarly, there is no urgency to recruit human resources,” said Khanal. The secretariat plans to recruit 422 personnel, including 146 ex-security personnel, to be deployed at cantonments for supervision of the Maoist combatants.
Talking to Republica early this week, Sharma had said that the process of recruitment and establishing the situation center would begin by the end of this week.
