JANAKPUR, July 11: The Madhesh Province government has declared the province a drought-hit zone, following the halt of paddy seedling plantation and the appearance of cracks in farmlands, primarily due to environmental imbalances.
Chief Minister of Madesh Province, Satish Kumar Singh, confirmed that a meeting of the council of ministers held on Thursday evening made such a decision. The cabinet meeting has decided to urge the federal government to seek a special relief package for the farmers.

The provincial government has also urged the agriculture-related development partners to extend their support in agriculture there.
Likewise, the meeting has decided to mobilize resources to address the shortage of drinking water supply in Birgunj city and other areas in the province.
