The Ministry of Energy (MOE) and China Three Gorges Corporation on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct 750 MW West Seti Project that will directly affect the locals in the borderline of four districts in the western region.
“We are quite hopeful this time around,” said a local Ganesh Bista. “The construction will be a milestone in the development of the region,” he added.
Studies show that around 18,269 people from Baitadi, Bajhang, Dadeldhura and Doti would be displaced by the dam that would be constructed under the project.
“The company which is going to construct the dam should provide due compensation the displaced people. Their resettlement in the Tarai should be arranged,” said Dhanbahadur Saud, a local NC leader.
“People believe that the west seti project would open avenues for development in the region. We are all very happy about the news,” said Padam Bahadur Bista of Belapur VDC.
