Local social workers had arranged the visit as damages caused by the earthquake in the inner parts of the city did not receive adequate attention. "Those visiting Basantapur area only surveyed the damages at Basantpur Durbar Square. But the damages faced by the locals, who are actually saving the culture, never received due attention," Shrestha told Republica.The lawmakers visiting the inner city parts such as Kasthamandap Temple neighborhood, Bhisensthan, Jaisi Dewal and Lagan Tole Jhonchhe included Nabindra Raj Joshi, CP Mainali, Rajya Laxmi Shrestha, Prabha Bajracharya, Rupa Maharjan and Rajan KC.
"Although these places look good from outside, they have actually suffered a huge damage inside. People are forced to live in homes termed as dangerous," said NC lawmaker Nabindra Raj Joshi after the visiting those places.
Joshi said the government needs to give special attention to these places and the locals living in these places to save the culture. "Although they outwardly seem to be in good shape, inner city areas are in critical condition," he said.
Locals have asked lawmakers to put forth their concerns in the parliament so that they can receive some assistance from to rebuild homes. "It is the local people who help save local culture, but they are forced live in the houses that are considered dangerous. As monsoon has already begun, things can get worse," said social activist Shrestha.
