Jewelers arrested on charge of fraud

SUNDARHARAINCHA, Nov 18: The police have arrested a couple who ran a gold and silver shop in Sundarharaincha Municipality-10 of Morang on the charge of fraud of Rs 8.2 million.

District Police Office Sub Inspector Deepak Shrestha informed the media that Raju Bishwakarma, 42, and his wife Kamala Bishwakarma, 32, owner of Kamala Jewellers, were arrested. According to Sub Inspector Shrestha, the initial investigation has revealed that they swindled some people out of Rs 8,274,602 by luring them with an interest rate of 17 percent.


After the depositors demanded the refund, the jewelers made various pretexts and ran away closing the shop. The couple, who had been absconding since August 2, were arrested by a team from the District Police Office. According to the police, it was found that they were asking the common people to deposit money in exchange for making passbooks. It was also found that  they have given passbooks to 65 people.
