KATHMANDU, March 20: People across the globe are celebrating the International Day of Happiness today with various programs. The United Nations General Assembly designated March 20 as the International Day of Happiness on July 12, 2012.
The UN introduced this day to recognize happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations. Bhutan initiated its observance, prioritizing national happiness over national income since the early 1970s. The country also adopted national happiness as a key development goal.

French Language Day
People around the world are also celebrating French Language Day today. The United Nations has designated special days for six official languages: French, Arabic, Chinese, English, Russian, and Spanish.
On this occasion, organizers are hosting events to share knowledge about the language's history, culture, and significance. The day marks the anniversary of the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, established on March 20, 1970.
