KATHMANDU, March 20: Nepal has imported gold worth Rs 16.50 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year (FY) 2024/25.
According to the data released by the Department of Customs on Thursday, gold worth Rs 14.37 billion has been imported until the month of Falgun (mid-March) in this fiscal year. The department said that 1,188.89 kg of gold was imported. Apart from this, 181 kg of gold jewelry worth Rs 2.09 billion has also been imported.

The gold import this year is lower compared to the corresponding period of the last year. In the first eight months of the previous year, 1,901.86 kg of gold worth Rs 16.122 billion was imported. However, the import of gold jewelry has increased this year. In the first eight months of the previous year, 171 kg of gold jewelry worth Rs 1.45 billion was imported.
Additionally, the import of silver has increased. Last year, 26,924 kg of silver and its jewelry were imported in the first eight months, while this year, 33,404 kg has been imported during the same period. The value of the imported silver and its jewelry stands at Rs 4.62 billion.
