KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Of the total 596 lawmakers, 546 have cast their votes in the vice-presidential election held at Lhotse Hall in New Baneshwar on Saturday.
Earlier in the presidential poll the total number of lawmakers was 597. The number came down to 596 after Bidya Devi Bhandari got elected as the second President of Nepal.

In the presidential election as many as 549 lawmakers had cast their votes. This time, in the vice-presidential election, only 546 parliamentarians turned up to cast their votes. UML lawmaker Prabha Devi Bajracharya is on a foreign visit, Madhavi Rani Sah of Sadbhawana Party who crossed the floor in the presidential election did not take part in the vice-presidential poll while Bidya Devi Bhandari has been elected as the president.
The lawmakers associated with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) did not take part in both the presidential and vice-presidential elections after showing participation in the prime minister's election.
The vote-count is beginning shortly and the Speaker of the Legislature-Parliament Onsari Gharti will announce the results at 5 this evening.
Maoist leader Nanda Bahadur Pun fielded by ruling alliance and Amiya Kumar Yadav representing Nepali Congress are in the race for the post of vice-president.
