KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The 12th National Dress and Topi Day is being celebrated today with various events organized by the Active Youth Campaign Nepal.
With the slogan "Nepali Topi: Our Identity," the Nepali youths will celebrate the day. To promote Daura-Suruwal, Topi, and Gunyu-Cholo as symbols of Nepali identity among the youth, National Dress and Topi Day has been observed since 2013.

On the occasion, many people post pictures wearing national attire on social media. The number of individuals walking on streets and using public transportation wearing national attire is also noticeably high.
After the initiation of National Dress Day celebration on January 1, the number of youth wearing national attire has increased not only on this very day but also during cultural events like weddings and Bratabandha ceremonies.
Nepali youth are reviving the national attire, which was gradually being forgotten. After the formal removal of the national dress from official use, youth initiated this campaign to preserve it. On this occasion, a special program has been organized today at the Patan Durbar area. It has been announced that the event will be attended by Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, among others.
