The parliamentary committee is debating whether to remove or retain the provision for party-based trade unions in the Federal Civil Service Bill.

Despite receiving hundreds of corruption and irregularities complaints, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives has yet to address a single one of them.

A debate has emerged regarding the necessity of party-specific trade unions for government employees, following remarks made by Shyam Ghimire, the Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, and Mahesh Bartaula, the Chief Whip of the CPN-UML Parliamentary Party.

The joint task force on legislation of the ruling party Nepali Congress-UML has initiated the discussion on setting the deadline for passing the bills that have come to the House of Representatives (HoR)

Currently, no parliament session is underway. However, these committees should still monitor and oversee government activities, engage with stakeholders regarding complaints, and instruct authorities to investigate cases of corruption and abuse of power.

Previously, the Civil Service Act of 2049 set the retirement age for civil servants at 58. Lawmakers are now debating whether to increase it to 60 or maintain the current age.

In the previous parliament, 27 bills became inactive, while 12 remained active because they were under consideration in the National Assembly.

Article 92 of the Constitution currently has provisions for the election of the chairperson and vice chairperson of the National Assembly. Preparations are underway to amend this article and eliminate the election system for the chairperson.
