The import of petroleum products has been increasing gradually since the Indian blockade was lifted. Against a normal average import of 25,000 kiloliters (KL) of petrol and 20,000 metric tons of LP gas per month, the monthly supply of petrol reached as low as 775 KL and LP gas 4,498 metric tons during the blockade. However, supply of both these fuels has been increasing gradually. According to NOC data, 14,168 KL of petrol and 14,091 metric tons of LP gas were imported between mid-January and mid-February. Moreover, some 18,994 KL of petrol and 14,692 metric tons of LP gas was imported from mid-February to March 5. Despite the increasing supply, queues have remained at petrol pumps in the Kathmandu Valley as shortage in distribution persists. Nepal Oil Corporation says it has increased supply, whereas the petrol pumps say they have been distributing all the fuel they are getting from the state-owned oil monopoly. But the customers queuing for hours for petroleum products are asking: where is the fuel?
