KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Nepali Congress (NC) on Thursday drew the attention of the government over growing attacks on its leaders and cadres by the UCPN (Maoist) and other elements during the election campaigns across the country.
The party has also demanded stern action against the culprits at the earliest.[break]
At a press conference held at its central party office, NC Central Working Committee member, Minendra Rijal, condemned the petrol bomb attack on NC cadres. An unidentified ground hurled bottle bombs at Vice-President Ramchandra Poudel´s vehicle in Tanahun and UCPN (Maoist) cadres torched vehicles being used by Dang-2 candidate Sushila Chaudhary and NC cadre Yubraj Bhushal in course of the election campaign.
The party has also accused the UCPN (Maoist) of carrying out such attacks fearing its defeat in the upcoming election.
“UCPN (Maoist) is intensifying its attacks fearing defeat in the elections. They attacked NC leaders in Gorkha with an intention of killing leaders, “said Dr Rijal, who is also coordinator of the NC’s election mobilization committee.
The party urged to stop such attacks, and extortion over political leaders, businessmen, journalists.
On Wednesday, a group of UCPN (Maoist) cadres had pelted stones at the vehicle being used by Rijal-led team of NC leaders at Tinmane Bhanjyang while they were on their way to address an election rally at Batase of Gorkha.
Similarly, an unidentified group had hurled bottle bombs at Poudel´s vehicle at Ruptar, Ramjakot VDC-2 in Tanahun.
