KATHMANDU, March 11: Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Chief Raju Pandey stated that they are taking action against vehicles that exceed the set standards for pollution.

On Monday, while sharing the findings from on-site vehicle inspections at Kathmandu Metropolitan City, he emphasized that since vehicles cause significant pollution, they are inspecting them and bringing them under legal action.

"We are taking action against vehicles that exceed the set standards because they cause pollution, which undermines the health of Kathmandu residents and leads to fatal diseases like cancer and lung-related illnesses. Drivers must properly maintain their vehicles before using them on the roads," he said.

Metropolitan Police Chief Pandey stated that nearly 70 percent of public transport vehicles have remained poorly maintained over the past one and a half months. He emphasized that authorities are taking steps to prevent unfit vehicles from leaving the garage.

"Over the past one and a half months, almost 70 percent of public transport vehicles have not been properly maintained. Even after a month of testing and requiring commitments for improvement, no significant progress has been made," he said. "Therefore, we will now inspect these vehicles directly at their garages and prevent those that fail the inspection from operating."

He stated that since even vehicles with green stickers were emitting smoke, they requested the transport management office to assess the inspection process.
