Man held with fake currency

SURKHET (REPUBLICA): District Police Office (DPO), Surkhet arrested a man for possessing fake currency on Monday evening and also seized counterfeit notes amounting to Rs 5,500 from him.

Tek Bahadur GC of Matela-8 has been arrested while attempting to buy fruits with fake currency, according to the police. The shopkeeper had called the police after being suspicious of the currency he received.

“The currency was found to be photocopied from original notes,” said SP Birendra Shrestha of the DPO. “Investigation into the matter is underway,” he added. According to SP Shrestha, GC has already circulated around Rs 5,000 such notes. After GC was arrested, Laxman Shah, the street vendor in Mangalgadi also reached the DPO to submit the counterfeit note of Rs 500 he had earlier received from GC.
“He gave me Rs 500. I returned him Rs 400 in exchange. Only later at night, I came to know that the currency was counterfeit,” he said.
