The Embassy of Nepal in Kuwait stated on Thursday that a recently held first meeting of the fund for 2011 took the decision to extend the grant to Nepal.
Nepal had requested the Kuwait government a few months back to extend financial support for the development of roads and hydropower in Nepal.
During her visit to Kuwait, then deputy prime minister Sujata Koirala had met officials of the Kuwait Fund.
Tulsi Sitaula, joint secretary at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MoPPW), said the government would request the Kuwait government for financial assistance for the construction of a proposed 25-km road once the feasibility study is completed.
The two-lane road is expected to lessen the chronic traffic jams along the Kalanki-Nagdhuga section, the sole entry and exit route for thousands of vehicles moving to and from the capital.
