KATHMANDU, Aug 31: As part of political consultation after resuming office, Prime Minster Dr Baburam Bhattarai met CPN UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal at the latter’s residence in Dallu on Wednesday morning.

During the meeting, PM Bhattarai is learnt to have expressed his view that there was no alternative to a national consensus government to address the outstanding issues of peace and constitution writing and urged Khanal to convince his party CPN-UML to join the government. [break]

In response, Khanal ruled out the possibility of his party joining the ruling coalition. Khanal, however, is said to have pledged his party’s constructive support to address the issues of the peace process and constitution writing.

A day earlier, Bhattarai had consulted Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala on constituting a high level political mechanism to create an environment for giving his government a national consensus status.
