JANAKPURDHAM, May 30: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has announced plans to develop Janakpurdham, the birthplace of Goddess Sita and the capital of Madhesh Province, into a major wedding destination, recognizing its historical, religious, and tourism significance.
The announcement was made through the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27, presented in Parliament on Friday. Dr. Wagle said funds have been allocated for the upgrading of the Ram-Janaki Highway and the Ram-Janaki Parikrama Road.

The budget also includes allocations for the development of the Postal Highway, considered the lifeline of Madhesh Province, railway expansion, upgrades to the East-West Highway, nutrition programs, and investments in the region’s education, health, and sports sectors.
The announcement has been positively received in the province. Surendra Bhandari, president of the Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the government's plan would significantly increase tourist arrivals and help create employment opportunities in the region.
He also welcomed the tax relief measures introduced through the budget, stating that they would provide much-needed support to industrialists and business owners while encouraging economic activity.
